What is Yoga Therapy?
Yoga therapy is a one on one healing experience integrating body, mind and spirit using the tools of yoga. It is excellent for stress release, pain management, and learning yoga at the pace that is right for you. It is a customized yoga class for your unique needs. This is whole person/healing yoga for those seeking a rich and nurturing yoga experience. Yoga Therapy uses the tools of yoga to create safe and effective healing routines for specific health and wellness issues. No yoga experience is required. It is equally effective for beginners and advanced yoga students. Yoga Therapy is educational, empowering, accessible for all people, safe and integrates optimal healing.
Does Personal Yoga Therapy work?
Yes. Yoga therapy accelerates your healing process. Yoga is proactive and promotes feeling empowered and reassured during stressful times, which we all encounter at times…
It puts you in charge of your recovery process at the level you are ready to commit to. Furthermore, clients who engage in their recovery plan are more motivated to come back for sessions and receive help all the way through the healing process.
The way it works is simple: You have a health/life concern and come for Personal Yoga Therapy Sessions. We meet and discuss your symptoms, relevant history and healing goals. We create a personal yoga healing routine for your specific situation. You learn the appropriate yoga based practices for recovery so you can help yourself over time. This is proactive and empowering. We make modifications based on your response to the routine and adjust course as needed. It takes about three to ten sessions to structure an effective personal yoga practice. Most people feel immediate results which makes it easier to stick to the program. You can come once a week or as often as you like. I am available for encouragement via email or texting between sessions.
How is it different from regular yoga classes?
There are several distinctions between yoga classes and yoga therapy. The primary differences are level of teacher training, safety awareness, class size, personal attention, risk of injury, and quality instruction. There are more injury opportunities in a standard yoga class. It is more of a one size fits all experience. If you are reasonably healthy and know your body and yoga poses pretty well they are okay. There are plenty of excellent yoga teachers out there; it is important to know the level of training and experience they have. It is good to know how qualified your teacher is.
Yoga therapists have the equivalent of a Masters Degree in yoga so they understand anatomy, alignment and individual modifications much better. I am a certified Yoga Therapist.
